The Azuki Restaurant, which means red bean in Japanese, is an exciting new project by the owner of Dotori, which some of you may have heard of. Dotori has been mentioned in many articles for its authentic food and fair pricing, which many people consider great value.
Our project began in 2023 at this site. Due to many complications in acquiring the property, it took us 18 months to complete the deal. In August 2025, we finally received the keys. Unfortunately, in early October, our site was taken over by squatters. Within just a few hours, the police were unable to help us. At the time, we had stock and equipment inside; the premises were damaged, many items were stolen, and all our alcohol was consumed. This resulted in severe losses, broken dreams, and a moment when everything seemed impossible.
However, we returned and redesigned the concept based on the drawings below, changing our overall theme.
As Alan said, as long as we serve great food, no matter what the place looks like, people will enjoy it.
Originally, our concept remains similar: a ramen place by day and an izakaya by night. In a few months, once we are settled and receive approval from the landlord to install an open kitchen on the ground floor, we will introduce a tasting menu showcasing fresh ingredients and authentic Japanese cooking techniques.
Alan also travels to Japan to source important ingredients such as kombu (kelp) and spices that are not available in the UK. His goal is to offer the very best of creative Japanese dining in the future
